Worth $150,000 the Inglis Mile attracts a classy field of mares every year and is one of seven Group races held at the meeting.
The day is headlined by the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m), which is Australia’s premier weight-for-age race.
Other features worth a punt on include the Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup (2400m), the Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m), Group 2 AAMI Vase (2040m) and the Group 2 Schweppes Stakes (1200m).
Inglis Mile Betting Guide
When looking to have a punt on the Inglis Mile, the best tip is to avoid the TAB and use an online bookmaker such as SportsBet to ensure you lock in the most lucrative odds.
Another good guide is to look at earlier Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival events that mares on way to the Inglis Mile may choose to run in.
Preparatory races during the carnival that can give punters an indication for their Inglis Mile betting include the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) in August, the Group 2 Rose Of Kingston Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in October and the Group 2 Tirstarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield a fortnight before.
The higher quality Inglis Stakes contenders may have the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) as their main spring target, run at Flemington the following Thursday on Victoria Derby Day.
The last mare to win the Inglis Stakes – Myer Classic double was Zanna in 2003, but punters can still get a heads-up for their Myer Classic bets by watching the Inglis as 2009 winner Lady Lynette managed to place second in the Myer.
Past Inglis Mile Winners
Since its inauguration, the Inglis Mile has been won by a number of classy mares including Echo Lass (1989), Bold Alliance (1992), Joy Of Flight (2004), Bird Of Fire (2008) and Lady Lynette (2009).
